Of all the major sports leagues, the NBA may have undergone the most change since its inception. At one point, professional basketball was a game almost entirely dominated by big men. From Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell, all the way through Akeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O’Neal, the game was usually funnelled to the big guys in the paint. Sure, there were great forwards and guards as well, but the bigs were king. Then the three-point shot was added, and things began to change. It was slow at first, but at this point, the game is all about the ability to hit three-pointers and occasionally keep defenses honest and drive the ball to the basket. This huge change in the game makes identifying the NBA’s All-Time leaders very difficult.
